Dr. Amelia Tower
Dr. Tower blends her exceptional academic and surgical training with her approachable, “small town” demeanor to provide compassionate and comprehensive care for her patients. She works as a Breast Surgical Oncologist at Breast Associates of Texas™.
As a Fellowship-trained and Board-Certified Breast Surgical Oncologist, Dr. Tower is specialized in the most innovative and advanced surgical techniques for the treatment of high risk, benign, and malignant breast diseases. She is a certified Hidden Scar™ specialist that reduces scarring and promotes optimal healing. In addition, she has extensive expertise in minimally invasive breast surgery, oncoplastic surgery, axillary management, as well as nipple and skin-sparing mastectomy. Dr. Tower is committed to achieving the best possible outcome for each patient by developing individualized, multidisciplinary breast health and cancer care and combines a holistic approach for breast cancer treatment, care, recovery, and survivorship.
Dr. Tower earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. She completed her General Surgery Residency at the University of North Texas Health Science Center-Plaza Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. She went on to complete her fellowship training in Breast Surgical Oncology at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
After fellowship, she returned “home” to Fort Worth where she has practiced for over 15 years. Dr. Tower has made significant contributions to breast research, having published her findings in numerous peer-reviewed journals and textbook chapters. Additionally, she has been invited to present her work at both national and regional conferences, showcasing her expertise in the field. She has been a Key Opinion Leader for biotechnology companies helping to refine advanced surgical equipment and techniques for breast cancer surgery which also allowed her to be the 1st surgeon in the world to utilize FDA approved advanced imaging technology intraoperatively during breast cancer surgery. As a healthcare leader, she has built a reputation of initiating and restructuring successful breast surgical oncology programs and service lines at several local hospitals as well as served as the Medical Director of the Breast Program at John Peter Smith and Harris Methodist Hospital where she achieved breast center of excellence distinction. Dr. Tower is a Fellow in both the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons as well as the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, Association of Women Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, American Osteopathic Association, and Texas Medical Association.
With over a decade of extensive experience in undergraduate and graduate medical education, Dr. Tower is deeply passionate about educating future physicians, which keeps her at the forefront of advancements in medicine and surgery. A recognized leader in academia, she has held positions as both Assistant and Associate Professor of Surgery at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and Texas Christian University College of Medicine. Notably, she played a pivotal role in launching Graduate Medical Education at Texas Health Fort Worth, establishing the first Texas Health Resources General Surgery Residency. As Program Director, she successfully secured accreditation, oversaw the graduation of the inaugural cohort of surgeons, and significantly expanded the program. Currently, she serves as an Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs and Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Education at Texas A&M College of Medicine.
When she is not caring for her patients or educating medical students and residents, Dr. Tower enjoys spending time with her husband, and very active sons, Huxley and Hobbes. She also enjoys church activities, attending sporting events, fishing, reading, and lounging at home with her family and Jack Russell Terrier, Whoopsie Daisy.

What is Breast Cancer?
Breast cancer is a disease where abnormal cells in the breast tissue begin to grow and divide uncontrollably, forming tumors that can potentially spread to other parts of the body if left untreated; it most commonly originates in the milk ducts or lobules of the breast, and can manifest as lumps, skin changes, or nipple abnormalities depending on the stage of the cancer.
